Silver Spring Window Treatments — Downtown Energy, Cape Cod Windows
DC's original first-ring suburb grew a skyline without giving up its capes — Ellsworth's towers on one end, Four Corners' dormers and Woodside's colonials on the other. Custom blinds, shades & shutters for both, measured free, no Maryland surcharge.
One Silver Spring, Two Speeds
DC's first suburb grew a downtown without retiring its avenues — and the windows split the same way:
Ellsworth & the Metro Blocks
The Downtown
Towers, lofts, and the arts district's glow — new glass over a street that never fully sleeps.
- Solar and dual rollers — view by day, privacy by night
- Room-darkening layers over the street's late light
- Building certificates and freight — our paperwork, not yours
Woodside · Seven Oaks · Four Corners
The Avenues
Capes, colonials, and bungalows from the ’20s–’50s — character glass with character quirks.
- Honeycombs that warm up drafty original sashes
- Dormer windows fitted instead of forgotten
- Romans and shutters at pre-war proportions
Ten minutes apart, a century apart in glass — same crew, same visit, same 4.9-star standard on both.

The whole process, in the order it actually happens:
Silver Spring, Straight Answers
The questions the first ring actually asks:
Our cape's dormer windows are tiny, angled, and tucked in alcoves. Can they even be treated?
They're a specialty we genuinely enjoy: small custom cellulars and Romans build down to dormer sizes, inside-mounted so the alcove stays a reading nook instead of a fabric closet. The angled ceiling never touches the treatment when the measure is right — which is why dormers get templated, never estimated.
Our 1940s colonial still has its original single-pane windows — gorgeous, drafty. Do shades actually help?
Substantially: a honeycomb shade adds an insulating air layer that does for the glass what a storm window does, minus the exterior alteration — measurably warmer rooms in January, and the original sashes stay untouched. It's the highest-return upgrade in the pre-war housing stock, and Silver Spring is full of it.
Home studio — I paint, and every treatment I've tried tints the light. What doesn't?
Color-neutral light-filtering fabrics in true whites and grays: they diffuse the glare without warming or cooling the spectrum, which is what cheap ecru and cream fabrics quietly do to your palette. North-facing studio windows often want the lightest touch of all — sometimes a sheer, sometimes honestly nothing — and we'll say so.
Downtown condo — the building wants insurance certificates before anyone works here. You?
Standard practice from Ellsworth to the Metro blocks: name the building when you book and the certificate arrives in management's format, the freight elevator gets scheduled, and install day walks in pre-approved. Your only paperwork is the quote.
Virginia plates on the van — is Silver Spring really in your service area?
Georgia Avenue counts as local: Silver Spring rides the same weekly Maryland route as our Bethesda and Chevy Chase work, with free consultation and measuring inside and outside the Beltway and not a surcharge in sight. The loop is short; we drive it constantly.
