The Cluster Owner’s Plan

Reston invented the covenant-covered neighborhood before it was cool — so the plan starts where your cluster's rulebook does and ends with windows that pass review without a second meeting.

1
Pull the cluster guidelines — or let us

Between the Reston Association's design standards and your cluster's own covenants, the street-facing rules are written down somewhere. Odds are decent we've already specced your cluster before.

2
Preview styles on your own windows

The AI visualizer renders blinds, shades, and shutters on a photo of your actual room — before any paperwork, from the couch.

3
One visit templates the whole home

Cluster townhome, single-family, or tower unit — every opening measured in one appointment, compliance backing written into the spec from line one.

4
Room side yours, street side neutral

The classic Reston solution: a uniform neutral face to the path, and any fabric, color, or opacity you want facing the room. Both sides of the covenant, satisfied.

5
Installed by our own crew, next door

The Herndon showroom sits on Reston's shoulder, so install day is a short drive and a follow-up is shorter. Everything arrives built to your measurements.

Six Decades, Three Restons

Simon's town grew in rings, and each ring asks its windows a different question:

1964 & the Originals

The Lake Anne Modernists

Goodman-era clusters and the plaza's landmark lines — architecture that punishes fussy treatments.

  • Minimal-profile rollers that vanish when open
  • Sheer shadings that respect the glass
  • Hardware that defers to the design, not the reverse

The Cluster Decades

Townhomes in the Trees

The ’70s–’90s rings: wooded paths, tall rear glass, and covenants with opinions about the front.

The Glass Towers

Floor-to-ceiling exposure over the skyline and the Metro — light management at altitude.

  • Solar screens against doubled western glare
  • Duals for day-view, night-privacy
  • Motorized banks where glass outruns reach

Live, work, play — Simon's formula never mentioned glare, but sixty years of windows later, we've got that part covered too.

Planned Community, Planned Partners

A town built on a master plan deserves suppliers chosen the same way: authorized Hunter Douglas dealer — Duette®, Silhouette®, PowerView® — with Graber carrying the cluster-scale value work and Norman on shutters. All three, full-size, one town over in Herndon.

Lake Anne to Town Center, Answered

Our cluster has design covenants — how do window treatments get through review?

Usually without a meeting: Reston's covenants care about the uniform face to the path, and virtually everything we sell takes a compliant neutral backing while the room side stays entirely your call. We've specced enough Reston clusters that there's a fair chance yours is already in our notes — bring the guideline paragraph or just the cluster name.

We're in one of the Lake Anne-era originals — how do we not ruin the architecture?

By subtraction: the modernist clusters were designed around clean glass, so the right treatment is nearly invisible when open — slim rollers, sheer shadings, hardware in finishes that match the frames. If a treatment announces itself in a Goodman room, it's the wrong treatment; the 1964 lines stay in charge.

Town Center tower, floor-to-ceiling glass, concierge downstairs — how does this work?

Smoothly, because the concierge buildings run on process: name the tower when you book, we handle certificates and freight timing with the desk, and the shades arrive pre-built for banks of glass — solar layers for the western exposure, duals where night privacy matters, motorized where the windows outnumber the reachable ones.

Our windows face the lake and the glare is somehow worse than direct sun — why?

Because you're getting the sun twice — once from the sky and once off the water. Lake-facing rooms on Anne, Thoreau, Audubon, and Newport all fight the same doubled light, and solar screens are built for exactly it: the glare drops hard, the lake view stays exactly where you paid for it to be.

Do we need different companies for blinds versus shades versus shutters?

One dealer covers all three — that's the point of carrying Hunter Douglas, Graber, and Norman together. Blinds for the tilt rooms, shades across the whole spectrum, shutters where forever is the plan: one consultation, one installer, one warranty contact for the lot.
