From Reformatory to Arts Center — Lorton Reinvents
No town in the region has a better second act: the old prison became the Workhouse Arts Center, its grounds became Laurel Hill's parkland streets, the rail stop became Lorton Station's walkable rows, and the reformatory buildings themselves became Liberty's lofts — where the windows are the size history left them. New-build glass, industrial conversions, and river-country porches, all inside one zip code, all on our route.
South County, Sorted
We're in Liberty — the converted reformatory. These windows are enormous and industrial. Options?
Some of our favorite openings anywhere: tall steel-framed banks that deserve treatments scaled to them — clean rollers and duals that disappear when up, motorized where the height puts controls out of reach, and mounting done to respect the conversion's character. The history is the amenity; we dress around it.
Lorton Station townhome, three floors, VRE at 7:04 — what's the sensible order?
One palette, three floors, zero decisions per morning: top-down honeycombs on the street faces, panels on the deck slider, and cordless everything so the house runs on autopilot while you make the platform.
Laurel Hill backs to parkland and trails — what do those big rear windows need?
Sun management more than screening: solar screens and sheers keep the third act of that land — the green view — on display while cutting the glare and UV that come with facing it all afternoon. The trail sees less of you than you'd think; the sun is the real audience.
We're near the river — do bathrooms and humid rooms need special treatments?
They need materials that shrug at moisture: faux wood blinds and composite shutters are built for baths, laundry, and river-air summers — no warping, no peeling, wipe-clean. Real wood stays beautiful in the dry rooms; we'll draw the line room by room.
The builder handed us a house with completely bare windows — where do we even start?
In order of sleep: bedrooms first, living areas second, everything else third — and if the budget wants phasing, that's exactly the sequence we'll quote. One consultation covers the whole house either way, so phase two is a phone call, not a second project.
Does your service really reach down Mason Neck and the river roads?
All of 22079, peninsula included — Gunston Hall's neighbors get the same free consultation as Lorton Station. The Parkway makes south county an easy run, and the drive past the marinas is no hardship.
