Custom Window Coverings in Oakton — For Windows That Were Never Standard
Oakton’s architects had fun — trapezoids under cathedral ceilings, window walls into the trees, colonials next door to cedar contemporaries — and we cover the results. Templated free, installed by our own team, with both of our nearest showrooms inside fifteen minutes.
The Wooded-Lot Playbook
Here's the part nobody tells you when you buy into the trees: your privacy has a leaf-off season. The plan accounts for it.
July's green wall and January's bare branches are two different neighborhoods. We plan coverage for the winter view — the summer takes care of itself.
The AI visualizer renders styles on a photo of your actual window — trapezoids and all — before anyone drives anywhere.
One free visit measures the colonials' rectangles and the contemporaries' geometry alike — angles templated, not eyeballed.
Sheers and solar screens carry the leafy months; a second layer — duals or honeycombs — stands ready for leaf-off evenings when the road can suddenly see in.
Our own team mounts and tunes every piece — and motorized layers can run the seasonal shift on a schedule instead of a stepladder.
Three Windows Only Oakton Has
The zip runs colonials and cedar contemporaries on the same streets — three window types keep showing up:
The Trapezoid
Gable Glass, Solved
The ’70s contemporary's signature: angled glass riding the roofline over the great room.
- Angled specialty honeycombs, templated to the slope
- Motorized where the peak is a ladder problem
- The honest option: some gables earn staying bare
The Wall of Woods
The Great-Room Bank
Two stories of glass into the trees — glare by day, a black mirror by night, exposed by winter.
- Sheer shadings that keep the forest in the room
- Solar screens against the low western sun
- A leaf-off layer on a schedule, not a pole
The Colonial Classic
The Other Half of Oakton
Double-hungs in brick and siding, doing quiet colonial things — the timeless playbook applies.
- Wood blinds toned to the trim
- Tailored Romans for the front rooms
- Shutters where forever is the plan
Plenty of Oakton houses are all three at once — a colonial with a great-room addition and one ambitious gable. One consultation specs the whole mix.
Understated Town, Overqualified Brands
Oakton doesn't show off, and neither do we — the credentials just sit there: authorized Hunter Douglas dealer with the specialty-shape and PowerView® programs the contemporaries need, Graber covering the colonials at whole-house value, and Norman for shutters. All three, both nearby showrooms.
Hunter Mill to Flint Hill, Answered
Can our trapezoid gable windows actually be covered?
Yes — angled specialty honeycombs are templated to the exact slope, and motorization handles the ones at ladder altitude. But we'll also tell you when a gable earns staying bare: if it's pure skylight duty with no sightline or heat problem, covering it buys nothing. The template visit sorts each one honestly.
We're private all summer and a fishbowl in January — what's the fix?
Layering, planned around the calendar: sheers or solar screens handle the leafy months' glare, and a second layer — duals or room-darkening cells — stands by for leaf-off evenings when headlights suddenly reach the sofa. Motorized versions make the seasonal shift a schedule instead of a chore. It's the most Oakton problem there is, and it has a clean answer.
You have showrooms in Vienna and Herndon — which should we visit?
Flip a coin — genuinely: both floors carry the same three brands full-size, and Oakton sits almost exactly between them. Vienna's on Church Street eight minutes up 123; Herndon's fifteen the other way. Or skip both and the samples come to you free.
Our cedar contemporary has strong wood tones — what finishes work?
Finishes that defer: warm neutrals and natural textures — woven woods especially — agree with cedar instead of arguing with it, and hardware in matte bronze or soft black reads intentional against the beams. The house has a voice; the treatments should harmonize, not solo.
The clerestory row up high — cover it or leave it?
Let the heat decide: if the row just feeds daylight, leave it gloriously alone. If it's cooking the loft every July afternoon, motorized honeycombs sized to the row solve it without anyone climbing anything. We'll stand in the room and tell you which case you have.
Both Showrooms Are Close — the Van Is Closer
Tell us about the house — colonial, contemporary, or the hybrid with one ambitious gable. One visit templates every opening, trapezoids included, samples audition in your light, and the quote is exact before we're back on Hunter Mill.
